How does a Nabasco 8012 façade performs during an earthquake?

This was tested using our façade panels as part of the BioFace project, with next to NPSP partners like Permasteelisa, Arup and Tu-Delft.

The first results are very promising: “no collapse”. The façade system performed well and showed only small damage when exposed to the equivalent of a > magnitude 6 earthquake, similar to the 1976 Friuli earthquake. A detailed data analysis will follow in the coming months.

The tested setup included a ventilated Nabasco 8012 façade mounted on a wooden understructure. For this test we used refurbished Nabasco 8012 panels, a biocomposite material made from biobased and wastebased ingredients. These panels had been used before and were carefully refreshed to give them a second life.

NPSP develops and produces sustainable biocomposites for the built environment under the name Nabasco Products, focusing on durable materials with a low environmental footprint.

BioFace is a great collaboration with TU Delft, Permasteelisa, Arup, Dow, Eckersley O’Callaghan, EUCENTRE, University of Salento, Knauf and Fischer.
