History

Milestones

1998 – Niels Haarbosch founds Natural Powered Speed Products (NPSP). A year later he is joined by Robert van der Vliet. Both experienced sailors, they build a catamaran reinforced with flax: the Flaxcat. The world’s first large flax-based construction capable of withstanding exposure to immense mechanical strain.

2001 – Nuna I, the first solar powered car, finished first in the World Solar Challenge in Australia. NPSP built Nuna in collaboration with students from the Technical University in Delft.

2003 – Willem Böttger and Mark Lepelaar join the management team. They bring with them their specialist knowledge of business development, environment and marketing strategy and sustainability. NPSP is renamed NPSP Composites and extends its focus from projects to serial production.

2004 – NPSP moves to a new production facility in the Waarderpolder, a major industrial zone in Haarlem. The new facility is officially inaugurated by Wubbo Ockels.

2005 – NPSP launches the Nabasco label with the development of environmentally friendly cycle path signposts. Nabasco® stands for Nature Based Composites, and demonstrates NPSP’s commitment to make fibre reinforced plastic products more sustainable. This puts NPSP at the forefront of sustainable development in the sector.

2006 – Several major clients sign long term production contracts with NPSP.

2008 – NPSP doubles production capacity by taking over a neighbouring factory building.
