Mobility solutions

High speed & slow mobility
The lighter a vehicle, the less fuel required to run it – but a vehicle and its components must also be as strong as steel!  Fibre reinforced composite reconciles these apparently conflicting requirements. The material is particularly suitable for aerodynamic and lightweight constructions and has - in addition - a long service life and low maintenance costs.
We also develop 'slow transport' solutions such as wheelchairs and hospital beds.

Front runner
Since its foundation NPSP has specialised in finding solutions for transport problems. We built the Flaxcat catamaran, the first large construction built with flax and able to withstand enormous mechanical strain. The first solar powered car – the Nuna I - built using European space technology, followed the sailboat.  Since then NPSP has created many more inventive transport solutions.

We are working with NedTrain to replace an increasing number of train components. In addition to water tanks and seating elements, our main project is the eye-catching “Koploper”, Dutch Railways’ ultra-modern intercity train.

Environmental solutions
NPSP is conducting research into the large-scale application of lighter natural fibre composites. The environmental burden of the transport industry could be significantly reduced by using these materials in the bodywork of vehicles. Research is also being conducted into bio-based resins.
